INFORMS Movie: A new view of Analytics and Operations Research
We would like to share with you a 4-minute movie, produced by INFORMS, that shows the impact of analytics and operations research on business and government. The inspiring cases of the Delaware River Basin Commission, Netherlands Railways and Proctor and Gamble demonstrate the tangible value optimization can bring to both society and business.
Edelman 2012 presentations
The presentations from each of the finalists in the 2012 INFORMS Franz Edelman Award Competition are now available online, including the award-winning project of AIMMS’ customer TNT entitled, “How Operations Research became part of the DNA of TNT Express”. By working closely with AIMMS’ partner ORTEC and the University of Tilburg, TNT has saved over 200 million euro’s (260 million US$) while simultaneously reducing the company’s carbon footprint.
AIMMS for Business
Fastest growing online fashion retailer ZALANDO chooses AIMMS ’We are facing an increasingly complex delivery network, both in terms of our European customer base and our warehouse setup. In order to ensure a consistently high service level towards our customers at a justifiable cost, we need an advanced optimization tool to help us design our network and transport flows. AIMMS technology allows us to quickly prototype and build unique optimization applications that create a competitive edge for Zalando.’ says Christoph Stark, Zalando’s head of logistics.
This August, the finalists of the 2012 MOPTA Modeling Competition will be presenting their work before an esteemed panel of academics and business professionals as they vie for top honors and awards. So far, we have over 25 teams registered from various countries around the world and expect several more entrants before the competition submission closes on May 31, 2012. This years’ Smart Scheduling problem appears to be an attractive and very realistic challenge that the teams are excited to be working on. We look forward to judging all of the entries next month and to selecting the three finalists that will go on to the final competition.
Americas News: How did you apply OR? Start a movement!
We are looking for new stories about your use of optimization/OR while using AIMMS; stories that we can write about, create a video around, etc. to tell others what you did and how exciting our field is and – even better – to show others they can do this as well. We encourage you to share with us how proud you are of a recent model you have developed or a GUI you have built or how you added value with the use of optimization. By sharing your ideas and achievements, you will have the opportunity to inspire others. Our experienced team will gladly work with you to get your story heard.
