Preview of new AIMMS features
As always, our R&D team is working hard on new features to be included in upcoming versions of AIMMS. New and enhanced features that are under development include:
- Nonlinear Math Program Inspector
- New version of the MOSEK solver
- New CPLEX and AOA options
- Enhanced pivot table functionality
- Various other GUI enhancements
- Additional database functionality
- New and improved AIMMS application examples
Please note that this list is provisional and may be revised.
Move of Dutch office
In April, the Dutch office of Paragon Decision Technology moved to a new location in Haarlem: Schipholweg 1, 2034 LS Haarlem, The Netherlands. The telephone and fax numbers remain unchanged, but the PO Box address is discontinued. The new office provides the extra space needed for our expanding team to support our continuous developments of AIMMS and expanding customer base.
Visit our website for complete address details of all our offices.
New people at Paragon
New people have joined the AIMMS Research & Development team: Floor, Marcel, and Michael. Floor has a Master’s degree in Artificial Intelligence (University of Amsterdam) and experience developing software solutions for healthcare institutions. Marcel has a Master’s degree in Computer Science (University of Amsterdam) and has a special interest in human-computer interaction, and graphical user interfaces in particular. Michael has a degree in Computer Science from the University of Amsterdam and 14 years’ experience as a software developer for the financial and petrochemical industries.
We also have two new people joining our Professional Services team: Guido in our Dutch office and Deanne in our US office. Guido will defend his PhD thesis at the faculty of Information & Computing Sciences (University of Utrecht) on “Column generation algorithms for machine scheduling and integrated airport planning”. Deanne is joining us from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where she recently received her MSc in Industrial Engineering with a focus on Computational Optimization.
Offshore gas planning at Petrobras
AIMMS is the core of a new application called MOVIGAS, a decision support tool for multi-annual offshore gas planning that helps Petrobras to maximize oil & gas exploitation at Campos Basin, on Brazil’s southeast coast. The application is connected to several company databases, providing the user up-to-date information. With the intuitive graphical interface, planners can navigate through the gas network, identify bottlenecks, and generate an optimal plan.

SCM optimization tool for pet food company Provimi
Optasoft, our Hungarian AIMMS Service Partner, has developed a Supply Chain Management tool for Provimi in less than four months. The tool is based on AIMMS’ robust and flexible platform and optimizes the transport between production lines, packaging lines and customers for more than 800 products across 17 countries.
Provimi’s manager said: “Optasoft provided us an optimal solution by tailoring AIMMS to the problem of our company.”

Modified outer approximation algorithm for distillation column synthesis
A research team from Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME) has developed a new MINLP formulation for optimizing a complex multicomponent separation system consisting of several distillation columns. To solve this complex system with a huge number of nonlinear equations, the team has developed a modified AIMMS outer approximation algorithm to provide good initial values for the NLP subproblems. This illustrates how AIMMS’ GMP library can be used to implement advanced solution approaches.
The full paper is available from the webpage about the AIMMS Outer Approximation Algorithm.
Send in your AIMMS reference case
On our website you can find more reference cases describing the benefits achieved with AIMMS applications in different industries and business processes. If you are also willing to share your AIMMS Reference Case with us and with others, we look forward to hearing from you via firstname.lastname@example.org.
INFORMS launches 2nd issue of Analytics
Analytics is a new digital magazine that looks at how data, modeling, and mathematical analysis is used to drive better business decisions and provide concrete competitive advantages. The second issue of Analytics is now available on-line.
NEOS Wiki launched to replace NEOS Guide
The NEOS (Network Enabled Optimization System) software guide has been upgraded to a wiki to allow quicker and easier access to the software pages. The old NEOS software guide will be phased out over the next year.
