Paragon celebrates 15th anniversary in hot air balloon
Haarlem (The Netherlands) - Fifteen years ago, Jan Bisschop started Paragon with the vision of developing an advanced mathematical modeling environment, one with which modelers could easily both develop their mathematical models and build complete decision support applications to ensure the practical usage of the models. After three years of hard work, the first commercial version of AIMMS was released in 1993.
Since then, a steadily growing group of professionals around the world in various industries have made AIMMS their modeling environment of choice. We are proud to have a large number of industry leaders as our customers including Shell, ExxonMobil, BP, AREVA, Gaz de France, Heineken, Merck, DSM, Bayer, Lufthansa, DHL, ABN-AMRO, Barclays, and Philips. Thanks to the enthusiasm of AIMMS users, our company has had the opportunity to grow steadily while achieving a sound profitability.
After 15 years, we are as committed as we were at the start to continue developing the most valuable modeling environment for mathematical modeling professionals. We believe that companies will be increasingly presented with opportunities to apply Operations Research (OR) with very profitable outcomes. We are passionate about the idea that AIMMS can play a role by enabling our customers to implement OR projects successfully. We will keep on striving to make AIMMS easier to work with, while increasing its algorithmic and GUI capabilities, its performance and its quality.
Over the next 15 years we are committed to expanding our company into a worldwide presence so as to be near to our customers. This year (2005) we started a US operation in Seattle. As we like to do things for the long-term and step-by-step at Paragon, we started our Seattle office in ‘stealth mode’ to ensure that, when it becomes fully operational, we will be ready to offer the same standards of support from our US office as we do from our office in the Netherlands. US customers, we will certainly keep you posted about these developments.
Size in itself is not one of our primary objectives. If, over the next 15 years, AIMMS continues to be seen as the most valuable mathematical modeling environment by a steadily growing group of customers, and if we can be proud of our culture and financial results, we will be very happy with the overall results.
Up and on to the next 15 years!
