AIMMS Knowledge Base Article – KB000049
Error: Unable to load help file: “aimms.hlp”
The information in this article applies to:
- AIMMS 3.6 and newer (up to 3.8.8, 3.9.2, and 3.10 FR1)
AIMMS tries to open the help in the old .hlp format and is unable to locate the “aimms.hlp” file.
An error occurs when trying to open the help file: “Unable to load help file: “aimms.hlp””
There are two possible causes:
- AIMMS incorrectly concluded that opening .chm files was not possible when Internet Explorer 8 is installed.
- AIMMS correctly concluded that opening .chm files was not possible when no internet explorer 3 or newer was installed.
In both these situations AIMMS tried to open the help file “aimms.hlp” which was no longer distributed with the AIMMS installation.
If the cause of this issue is that Internet Explorer 8 or newer was installed the “aimms.chm” help can still be opened manually from within the Windows Explorer. Alternatively you could ask the help on an option, which still opens the help file successfully.
If the cause of this issue is that you don’t have an Internet Explorer higher than version 3 installed, you are likely not able to use the AIMMS help at all, unless you install a newer version of Internet Explorer or install another software that allows you to read .chm files.
